Friday, Dec 15

Hello class! I am unexpectedly away today.  Please complete your final Adobe illustrator project and email to me today.  If you do finish you may open Adobe premiere elements and play around with it or work on your code.org.

If you have not gotten your planning approved by me, unfortunately there isn’t much I can do about that now.  You need to continue with your project and make sure you are using appropriate colors and that your card is cohesive and works all together.

Ask other students for opinions if necessary.  I will see you on Monday when we begin Adobe premiere elements for video editing.

Monday, Dec 11

Work to email in:

  1. Pathfinder practice assignments (2)
  2. Vector pen tool drawing
  3. Toy Story re-creation
  4. Batman logo re-creation

After you have watched a few of the tutorials and you need a break, try one of these two options:

  1. Watch the Roberto Blake tutorial (number 2 on your tutorials list) and follow along to create a pencil on Adobe Illustrator.

OR

2. Try to create your name on Illustrator using SHAPES (not text)  Add various colour and stroke techniques to make it fun and interesting.

Beginning Adobe Illustrator

With Adobe Illustrator we will be reproducing and creating logos.  This is only one small portion of the things you can do with Illustrator, but it is as far as we are going to go in this course.  Below is a link to a series of tutorials.  You must start with tutorial one.  We will watch it in class together, but if you are absent it is up to you to watch it on your own.

Getting Started Illustrator Tutorials

There is also a folder of AI files that go with each tutorial so you may work along in AI while watching the tutorial. You will need to get these files from me before we begin.

Tuesday, Nov 14

Welcome Back everyone!! Hope you all had a good 4 day weekend! If you are done everything, you may begin to work on Chapter 6 of the Photoshop Classroom in a Book.  You will need a layered file to work on it, so you will need to get that from me on a USB stick.

Monday, Nov 6

Good Morning!  Once you begin to finish up your magazine covers you can move on to Chapter 5 of the Photoshop book.  It is about touching up photos to account for things such as red eyes, poor lighting, depth of field, etc.  There are 5 different photos to adjust.  I will show you the first one quickly, but I would like you do it as well, taking your time.  I have posted the before and after images so you will be able to see the difference.

The first photo you need to start with is a camera raw file.  It is not supported by this website and therefore you will need to come pick it up from me from a usb stick.

Hello! Sorry I am away today, I am not feeling well.  Please continue with your Photoshop assignment.  If you have finished, please work on the extra credit assignment at the end of the chapter.  Using the photo below, transform in into black and white using Photoshop as well as the Camara Raw in Adobe Bridge.  If you happen to complete that as well, choose your own landscape photos from the internet and convert them to black and white, then play with the coloured tint options.

Monday, Oct 2

Here is the document you will need to correct.  Save one version of the document as the original, then fix the document.  Once you fix it, save it again as a SEPARATE file.  So you should have 2 versions saved, the original and the fixed copy.  You are NOT to just re-type to document.  That is not the purpose of this exercise.

If you need assistance re-formatting the document, first try this link

Grade 8 Winter Retreat – Bad Formatting

When you are finished you may go to typing.com –  https://www.typing.com/student/join#59B2D8104A3D9

or code.org if you have also finished the beginner typing lessons.

Thursday, Sept 28

Today you will be watching another word tutorial.

Tutorial 5 –  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkrhiqEiTOw&t=2s

When you are finished, use what you have learned so far to create a flier for an event in a new MS Word document.  It may be any type of event you wish, such as a book club meeting, a movie premiere, a music concert, food festival, video game tournament, etc.  Use your imagination!

Your flyer should include:

  • COLOUR! Lots of it!
  • A title (name of your event)
  • some text with the details of your event, such as time, place, maybe a summary depending on what you are doing.
  • Several pictures (at least 3)
  • page borders
  • word art

If you have any questions about whether to include/not include something, ask!

You will have tomorrow to work on all three assignments to get caught up if necessary.

Wednesday, Sept 27

I am away again today.  Please work on the following.  Do not send me the completed assignments yet.  I will get them all together next week.  Please also remember to put your name and the name of the assignment as the subject line when you do eventually send them to me.  It is very time consuming to go through each email to figure out who has sent what.

Please watch the following tutorials for MS Word:

Tutorial 3 –  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_Qj5etaqL8

Tutorial 4 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44o0fknfH_E

You are then to create a survey for your fellow classmates about their heritage.  In a new word document, design a questionnaire that might be given out to a class to collect information on each individual’s heritage.  The questions may include ideas such as (but are not limited to)  culture, traditions, food or about the country itself.  (ie. Have you ever traveled to the country of your heritage? If so, when?   or   What are some common traditional foods in that country?) Keep the questions respectful and thoughtful.

Things to include in your questionnaire:

  • at least 10 questions with space to answer (use textboxes)
  • a header that allows someone to write their name and block
  • a watermark so that no one can copy your questionnaire!
  • page numbers at the bottom of each page
  • add a page border
  • change the page colour

Be creative!  Use the possibilities of MS Word to your full advantage.   Your questionnaire should be cohesive and the colours, art, etc. should complement each other.  Same goes for the previous assignment.  The colours/ clip art you choose should complement the poem you selected.

Here is an example if you need it:

Unit 2 – Lesson 2 – Questionnaire Example

Tuesday Sept, 26

Today you are starting the Microsoft Word unit.  You are to watch the 2 tutorials below and complete the assignment.

Tutorial 1 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_ddFubJ3tc

Tutorial 2 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3H9o1W06o0

The Assignment is as follows:

Choose one of the poems below and re-format it.

You need to look the poem up online to make sure each line and paragraph start where  they need to.

ie) rather then: The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—

it should look like

The Raven
by Edgar Allen Poe
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—

Other things to change:

-font           – size          – colour         – add clip art         – page alignment

You have the freedom to choose what you would like to change.  However, you need to add at least one clip art, change the font at least once, the size once and the colour once.

If you are already comfortable with MS Word, you may skip the first tutorial but you should be working on Poem 3 then.

Those that have completed this class before should also be adding to this assignment on their own (ie.  using several fonts, colours and clip arts)

Unit 2 – Lesson 1 – Poem 1

Unit 2 – Lesson 1 – Poem 2

Unit 2 – Lesson 1 – Poem 3

When you are finished please work on typing.com

Here is the link to get started:  http://www.typing.com/student/join#59B2D8104A3D9

please email me if you have any questions, I will try to check it as often as possible

Have a great day!

These slides discuss the basics of computer hardware, much like the assignment you handed in yesterday.  Please review, then proceed to the next set of slides.

IT 9-10 – Unit 1 – Lesson 2 – Parts of A Computer (part 1)

These slides go into further detail of the internal hardware within a computer.  They are a bit dated, so please refer to the changes as you review the slides.

IT 9-10 – Unit 1 – Lesson 2 – Parts of A Computer (part 2)

Changes:

Slide 5 – you must also consider the graphics card requirements when choosing a power supply

Slide 8 – to clarify, these components are all part of ONE motherboard

Slide 11 – AMD has come out with some recent rival CPUs for Intel

Slide 17 – clarification: nVidia and ATI are the competitor companies, SLI is nVidia’s product and Crossfire is ATI’s product

Slide 22 – a solid state drive is getting more common among hard drives.  For amount of money spent, the storage size is smaller (less bang for buck), but the access speed is faster (can load things faster).  It is also more reliable because there are no moving parts

3 – Research how upgrading different components can increase a computer’s performance using the links on the following worksheet.

IT 9 – Components Worksheet

Fill out the worksheet and save it to your Info Tech 9/10 folder.

4 – When you have completed this, follow the instructions on the next worksheet.  You will need it for the next activity.
